UNC-ECU: Bunting Quotes

Posted Oct 11, 2003

"[The second half] was a big half for us. We hadn't done that a lot in the last couple of years, come out and play well when we had to. As Jackie Gleason would say, 'How sweet it is.' We ran the football well, which was big for us. We hadn't done that in a long time. Anytime you can run the football, it's huge for your offense.

"For the most part we played pretty well on defense. I knew we were capable of that kind of effort and we put it together today. The young kids on this team played hard, which is the most important thing - to hang in there, play together and win.

"What we did do is get back to understanding exactly what it takes to stop the running game. I think we shut them down pretty well in the third quarter. Offensively, we just needed to not keep shooting ourselves in the foot. We dropped a pass here and there, we didn't get a field goal because we had 10 guys on the field. But we were a lot more alert in the second half and we got some momentum. I think the offensive line felt bad about the last couple of weeks and played very well today. We had good field position most of the day and did a good job on special teams. Defensively we made some stops.

"This football team can do some good things. It was pleasing to see us do some good things on both sides of the football today. I like playing in these type of [hostile] environments. I think our team responded extremely well to it today. We responded to what was going on on the field and didn't' get caught up in the build-up of the game."
