Gameday UNC Football Links

Posted Aug 30, 2003

Saturday's links from around the 'net.

Shiny gold helmet, big spear on the side. Folksy old coach. The pass rush, the long ball. The to-heck-with-PC war chant.
The beginning or the end?

It's the ACC opener for two teams bent on redemption. FSU went a disappointing 9-5, and UNC was 3-9, winning its lone ACC game on a last-second field goal against Duke.

Now comes Miracle on The Hill, the sequel. Two years after North Carolina stunned Florida State 41-9 in Chapel Hill, the Seminoles are back at the site of their humiliation. Tonight's game at Kenan Stadium, the season opener for both teams, kicks off at 8 and will be regionally televised by ABC Sports.

It took North Carolina students 45 minutes to dismantle the west-end goal post following the Tar Heels' win over FSU two years ago. The Seminoles will need far less time to do the same to the Tar Heels. But take the win as it is - a win and not proof that FSU is back. Bowden's bunch will have better chances down the road to do that. FSU 28, North Carolina 10.
