Sooners land Samia

Following a rough week for OU, Sooners end on a high note with the commitment of Dru Samia.

For the last couple of weeks, it has felt like offensive linemen have been slipping through the hands of Oklahoma on the recruiting trail.

Friday night, though, was the opposite. Almost a feeling of sneaking in the backdoor and landing one of the biggest rising tackles in the nation.

Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley offensive tackle Dru Samia tweeted and later confirmed he is the newest member of OU’s 2015 class.

Up until earlier this month, it seemed like there was no way any school had a shot at the four-star prospect except for UCLA.

That all changed 15 days ago when Samia arrived in Norman for an unofficial visit. The visit was so great, so in-depth that Samia said it felt basically like an official visit. It was there where he was officially offered.

Samia, who is 6-foot-6 and 295 pounds, is ranked No. 17 at offensive tackle and No. 202 in the Scout 300 and has developed a huge relationship with OU coaches Bill Bedenbaugh and Bob Stoops.

The Bruins have been a thorn in the side of OU with two of the Sooners’ offers at offensive line already committed to UCLA but turns out the third guy was the charm for OU.

Samia was supposed to go from his OU trip to another unofficial visit at UCLA to watch the Bruins practice, but he opted to cancel that trip. After a week of silence, Samia let the world know Wednesday night he was down to OU and UCLA.

The addition of Samia gives OU 11 commits for the class and four among the offensive line and two at tackle. Samia joins Allen (Texas) High’s Bobby Evans as the other four-star tackle prospect already committed to the Sooners. Recommended Stories
