“Well, actually, I just decided I was ready to be a Tar Heel. I was going to commit on my official visit, but I thought that I was ready now. I was just sitting down watching TV and I knew I was going to commit sooner or later, but I just decided I was ready to do it now.”
When did you inform the UNC coaches?
“I just talked to Coach [Larry] Porter this morning and he said he’s excited. He said that the whole state went crazy.”
Have you talked to Larry Fedora?
“No, but I know I’ll talk to him today.”
What was it about UNC that attracted you?
“Basically, I kind of want to grow up and see another side of life in Chapel Hill. They have a great medical program and then they have a good engineering program.
“Another reason is early playing time. I’m supposed to enroll in January. With that early playing time, my future is looking bright to get to the next level.”
Do you plan on signing scholarship papers, since you plan to enroll early?
“I haven’t signed any papers yet. Coach Porter talked about it, though.”
Have you ever visited North Carolina? If not, do you have any reservations attending college so far away from home?
“I haven’t visited North Carolina. I don’t have any fear. I’ve thought about how different it’s going to be in Chapel Hill, but it’s part of the next chapter of my life.”
You have an official visit with Nebraska scheduled. Will you still take that?
“Yes sir. I’m going to take all five visits, but I don’t know who the other three schools will be.”
UNC has already seen one safety flip after visiting elsewhere. Does UNC have to worry about you?
Have you made any progress with scheduling your UNC official visit yet?
“We’ve been in contact about it. I was trying to go to the last home game [Nov. 29 vs. NC State]. I just want to make sure I get enough time with the team.”
Especially since you haven’t visited the campus, what are you hoping to learn about UNC during that official visit?
“I want to see what they do to help their players – whatever tutoring they offer their players and what they do to help their players move on to the next level.”
Have you gotten a better idea of what safety position UNC projects you at?
“I’m pretty sure it will be the strong, because even though I’m good at run support, I’m also good in coverage. So I could play the free safety or the strong safety.”
UNC has one other pledge from Texas, Nathan Elliott. Have you spoken to him?
“Actually, him and I talked before, but it was before North Carolina showed interest in me. We talked one time at a photo shoot a while back. I plan on getting in contact with him soon.”
