Johnson Commits

Despite not yet having visited the UNC campus, Jamile Johnson committed to the Tar Heels late Tuesday evening, Johnson confirmed to

The 6-foot-1, 201-pound safety from Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff chose UNC over Nebraska and TCU.

UNC offered Johnson days after losing longtime commitment Ronnie Harrison to Alabama in late July.

Ironically, Johnson made a switch in his commitment also. He backed out on a six-month pledge with Oklahoma shortly after receiving the UNC offer.

He expects to play strong safety or ram at UNC and aims to enroll in January. He is UNC's fourth defensive back commitment for the 2015 class.

Johnson is a versatile player for the Bears, who had a turnaround season on the field in 2013 going 11-2 and advancing to the third round of the 4A state playoffs, spending time at safety and cornerback.

As a junior, Johnson collected 74 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 21 pass break ups, three interceptions, forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles.

His speed is also verified, as he is a standout on the track for SOC. He posted bests of 11.49 in the 100-meters, 23.42 in the 200-meters, and runs in the 4x100 and the 4x200.
