Colon's recruitment heating up

Christian Colon had a great sophomore season last fall. Now, the 2016 Charlotte (N.C.) Independence defensive tackle's recruitment is gaining momentum.

Christian Colon holds scholarship offers from North Carolina, North Carolina State and Wake Forest. He is also attracting interest from Clemson, Kentucky, Ohio State, South Carolina and West Virginia.

His most recent offer came from North Carolina.

”I love both the academic and football programs at North Carolina,” said the 6-foot-3, 303-pound Colon. “They have a really good medical school and that’s what I’m interested in studying. They also put a lot of defensive lineman in the NFL.

”I talk to (wide receivers) coach (Gunter) Brewer and (defensive line) coach (Keith) Gilmore the most. I like both of them.”

Which school could be next to pull the trigger?

”I camped at both Ohio State and West Virginia,” Colon said. “Both schools told me that they want to see my first three games this season before they make a decision.”

Along with Ohio State and West Virginia, Colon camped at Clemson, North Carolina, NC State and South Carolina this summer. Although he enjoyed all the camps, three stood out.

”I really liked Wake Forest, North Carolina and Ohio State,” he said. “I really enjoyed the atmospheres at those two schools, as well as working with the coaching staffs.”

With the season just weeks away, Colon has already started thinking about upcoming visits.

”I’m going to Wake Forest on Nov.6 for the Clemson game and I think I’m going to head up to Ohio State on Nov. 29 for the Michigan game,” he said. “I’m going to schedule more trips soon.”

Independence opens their season on August 22 at South Mecklenburg. Recommended Stories
