Several schools interested in Wethington

Last fall, Deshaun Wethington had a breakout season. Now, the 2016 Suffolk (Va.) King’s Fork running back is starting to generate a significant amount of interest on the recruiting trail.

”I don’t have any offers yet,” said Deshaun Wethington. “But I’ve been getting a lot of mail from Cincinnati. I’ve also heard from Alabama, Florida State, UCLA, North Carolina, Nebraska, Virginia Tech and Purdue.”

Virginia Tech was the only camp he went to this summer.

”It was cool and there was a whole lot of competition out there,” said the 5-foot-10, 196-pound Wethington. “I enjoyed seeing how I stacked up against everyone. We did some combine stuff and a few drills, but we didn’t get to finish because it started raining.

”While I was there, I talked to (tight ends) coach (Bryan) Stinespring. He’s my recruiting coach. He told me he knew I was going to have a great season. He also told me stay on top of my grades and keep doing what I’m doing, too.”

With the season just weeks away, Wethington has started to think about possible visits this fall.

”I want to get to games at Virginia Tech and North Carolina,” he said. “I’d also like to get down to Clemson. I haven’t heard from them yet, but hopefully I will soon.”

As a sophomore, Wethington rushed for 1,977 yards and 21 touchdowns.

King’s Fork opens their season on Aug. 22 at home against Heritage.
