'Cuse commits receive historic rankings boost

The Syracuse Orange football class of 2015 received a significant upgrade on Monday when Scout.com updated their player rankings. Complete details inside.

Syracuse football recruiting got some very good news on Monday. No, they did not receive yet another commitment in what has been a busy recruiting cycle for the Orange. Scout.com updated their rankings, and they were very favorable to ‘Cuse.

Prior to the update, of the 23 publically known verbal commits, 10 were rated as three-star prospects. After the update, that number doubled to 20 three-star commitments. There were even a few players who remained three-star players but moved up within their positional ranking.

The move pushed Syracuse’s class ranking up 17 spots from the 45th best class to the 28th best nationally. The highest ranked class Syracuse has had since Scout’s existence starting with the 2002 class is 36th. The Orange have only had three top-50 classes since 2002, and are well on their way towards hitting that mark for a fourth time.

The most three-star prospects Syracuse has ever had in one cycle is 16 which was accomplished in Scott Shafer’s first full year on the recruiting trail in the 2014 class. Syracuse has already received commitments from four more three-star prospects than that previous record with a few more slots still available. Shafer and his staff deserve a lot of credit for that accomplishment.

List of each Syracuse commit’s ranking and rating before and after the update can be found in the table below.
