The trip to Columbia, S.C. was worth it for Mon Denson Saturday. He got the news he was hoping for -- a scholarship offer.
Denson, a three-star running back out of Lagrange, Ga. wanted that offer and he took Steve Spurrier up on it Tuesday.
"I went up to South Carolina for their showcase and they offered me on the spot. I told Coach Sands about my commitment, but I reveled it to everyone else Tuesday afternoon," said Denson.
Many schools offered the 6-foot, 207 pound senior, but it came down to two in the Southeastern Conference.
"I committed to South Carolina over Tennessee and it was a lot about the depth charts. I have a chance to play and to duo up with my friend A.J. Turner. I think we can start something great there. We can make things happen and be a threat."
Some schools recruited Denson as a safety, and some could even project him as a linebacker, but he is set on playing running back. He is excited about the opportunity in Columbia.
"I am a hard-nosed running back who is big with speed," said Denson. "I am ready to play on the next level and I am always looking to get better everyday."
Denson gives the Gamecocks 24 verbal commitments and he is the seventh from the state of Georgia.
