Petrino faces ACC media blitz

Bobby Petrino

GREENSBORO, N.C. - University of Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino met the ACC media on Monday during ACC Kickoff at the Grandover Resort. Cardinal Authority was on hand and has this report and video.

University of Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino knew what to expect from the ACC Kickoff at the Grandover Resort on Monday.

But then again, nothing could have perhaps prepared the new U of L football coach for what he went through during the day.

In a nine-hour period, Petrino did 30-plus interviews including an hour sit-down with the print media at the event.

"It was a blitz," Petrino smiled. "But it's been fine. It's been fun and it's an exciting time for us to be joining the ACC Conference.

"It's an exciting time for us."

And he was able to share his message - and the message of U of L - with the ACC media for the first time. The Cardinals will play in the league for the first time this school year.

Petrino said he not only knew what to expect but was told by his two players in attendance on Sunday that it was tough.

"Lorenzo (Mauldin) told me, 'Coach I'm tired'," Petrino said. "But hey, I enjoy it. It's good to get out and talk about football and know that we get to practice here soon."

Not only did Petrino answer a slew of messages about his team, quarterback Will Gardner, depth at the offensive line and other positions, but he also answered a ton of questions about his personal life and his trail back to U of L.

And he answered them well.

"There's no doubt it's a second chance," he said. "And I am very fortunate and appreciative of Tom Jurich and Dr. Ramsey in giving me this opportunity and I am very excited and motivated to have the challenge ahead of us.

"I've certainly grown and changed throughout the years in things that I've experienced and things that I've caused myself. And I'm just fortunate to be able to continue in the sport that I love so much and to coach football."
