It's Ole Miss

Zedrick Woods wanted to play Southeastern Conference football. Ole Miss has given him that chance.

Woods, called "Red" by most of his friends and family, committed to the Rebels Friday, choosing Ole Miss over Central Florida and North Carolina.

"I came up there to the one-day camp," the 6-foot, 200-pounder said of his trip to Oxford in June. "I got a chance to look at the facilities, the locker room. I really liked the atmosphere there."

But that wasn't what put Ole Miss over the top. Yes, it was the chance to play in the SEC. But there was something else.

"It was my relationship with the coaches," said the All-State and All-District performer, heading into his senior season at Columbia High School in Lake City, Fla. "Coach (Chris) Kiffin, Coach (Hugh) Freeze, the No. 1 thing was my relationship with them. I picked my top three schools and talked to my mom and chose Ole Miss."

He said the Rebel coaches liked him as well.

"I think what really impressed them was my 40," he said, mentioning he ran a 4.4

The outside linebacker/husky said his commitment to Ole Miss is firm.

"I'm glad to have it behind me," he said. "I'm relieved and excited. Just knowing I have a chance to play SEC football is special."

Woods plans to spend his senior season helping his team and preparing for college.

"I'll keep working hard. That's the plan," he said. "I want to improve in every area. I can just focus on all that now that I've made my decision."
