No. 9 - Opening Sleepers

Here'a a trio of Florida sleeper recruits who could surprise at The Opening.

There are a handful of big questions heading into The Opening. It begins next Tuesday in Beavertown, Oregon.

The state of Florida leads the way with 27 selections. There are 162 participants in all. Here are ten story lines from the Sunshine state leading into the event.

9. Who could surprise from the state of Florida?

I think there is a trio of prospects to keep an eye on – wide receivers Deondre Farrier (Orlando Lake Nona) and Auden Tate (Tampa Wharton) and quarterback DeAndre Johnson (Jacksonville First Coast).

I don't know how Johnson [video below] could be considered a sleeper. He's committed to FSU and he earned the right to participate at The Opening. But he is. When people talk about the elite signal callers in this class how often do you hear or read his name? Johnson will show that he belongs in Oregon next week and to be mentioned amongst the top quarterbacks in his class. I am telling you this kid can sling it.

Farrier had a stellar day in March at the Orlando NFTC. I got open and caught the ball extremely well. I know the coaches there were raving about him and the performance he put in on that Saturday.

Tate [video below] is an interesting wide receiver. He has great size and length, which presents a lot of problems to the defensive backs lining up opposite him. Tate has deceptive speed and terrific hands. He was just bumped up to four-stars but I am not sure how well known nationally he is as well.

Keep an eye on these three. They should surprise at The Opening.
