Midlands: HOU Notebook – (6/4/14)

Scout.com has had lots of activity in the Midlands region. Today, we look at a few recruiting notes from the Greater Houston area from last week and the early portions of this current week.

Bears Big 12 Lead…
Easily one of the best receivers in the state regardless of class, Manvel receiver Reggie Hemphill released his Top 10 recently. Baylor leads the way for him while the Pac-12 program UCLA rounds out the list.
1. Baylor, 2. Clemson, 3. Texas A&M, 4. Oregon, 5. Texas, 6. Oklahoma, 7. Ole Miss, 8. Maryland, 9. Notre Dame, 10. UCLA

Hemphill said that the Vype photo shoot that he will continue to evaluate the programs that made the list.

In-State Commitments
Statewide it's safe to say that the Kyler Murray to Texas A&M commitment was one that gained a lot of attention nationally, though was more than expected to anyone who follows recruiting within the state of Texas. But what that commitment did was jumpstart a number of other events, one of which occurred in the area. Not long after the Murray announcement, Cy Ridge receiver Kemah Siverand decided that it was time for him to make the call as well. He did not say what school would get this call, but he had already released his top schools and the Aggies were at the top of the list.

"I'll be committing tomorrow," Siverand said Thursday night of May 29. " Kyler Murray influenced it (commitment announcement) honestly."

Also the two in-town programs grabbed a couple of talented athletes, both from the Missouri City/Sugar Land area. From Hightower, defensive back Christian Bertrand made his commitment to Rice after a weekend visit. And recently, Elkins linebacker Leroy Godfrey tweeted this news.

Former Tiger Offered
One of the city's fastest players from the 2014 class, Katy alumnus Kyle Fulks was originally committed to Baylor. This past season, he played for Blinn and excelled. Now, his first offer has come in from Utah

"So thankful I just received an offer from The University of Utah! God is good," Fulks, also known as K-Flash said on twitter.

Lamar (Re)Loaded…Really
Last week it was mentioned that the Lamar program found its quarterback when four-star athlete J.W. Ketchum made the move to the HISD power from the Marshall program. It was a move that many felt would give the Lamar program the playmaker needed to continue making that push to reach the state as it did two years ago. Now, the program has pulled in another major playmaker. Running back Tyreik Gray, formerly of Episcopal has now made his way to Lamar as well. This combination, with Ronnie Wesley should be a lethal rotation of guys who can take it the distance at any given moment.
