Gottfried: "They Are Physical"

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Mark Gottfried met with the media to discuss the upcoming game against Pittsburgh.

Mark Gottfried

"I don't know if there is a certain grade I'd give our team, but I do feel like we've got better. That's the most important thing."

"I think we've won some good games against quality opponents and I think we've given a couple away too."

"I do think our guys have been tested pretty well getting ready for the ACC."

"I have a lot of confidence in our guys. Although we're young I think our guys have got better and I think they've shown at different times in tough situations that they are all going to be good players at our level."

"They don't really know what to expect just yet, but that's all a part of growing up and learning."

"I think we know our team now and know how we need to play, how we need to score."

"I think our guys are developing roles pretty good."

"We're getting there... we can still play a lot better as a team at times, but I think we have a pretty good feel for where we are."

"Energetic, enthusiastic. I always like to talk to our team about their spirit everyday. We have great spirit within the core... they cheer for each other, they pull for each other. Those kinds of things can help us, they can help us develop and get through a tough league."

"I'm not sure you're always going to be as consistent or polished as you want to be... we've had some good leads and we need to keep our foot on the pedal and continue to score."

"We have to learn how, with a 10 or 12-point lead and six minutes to go in the game, how do you extend that without becoming less aggressive?"

"We brought in three really good teams this year."

"It's going to make our league better. I've known Jamie a long time and he's done an unbelievable job at Pitt."

"They are physical. They are big, strong... they run I think a lot better than most of Jamie's teams. They get out and run and finish in the break well. They have good scorers and finishers in the break and defensively they are really solid."

"You can't turn the ball over, that's the type of game we have to play if we want to have a chance to win."

"I think [Vandenberg] can play better than he has the last two games so hopefully he'll give us a little more scoring."
