Ty Tomlin verbally committed to North Carolina on Wednesday, several days after visiting Chapel Hill.

"I would like to announce my commitment to the University of North Carolina," Tomlin said in a statement.

Throughout the recruiting process, Tomlin, a 6-foot, 215-pound linebacker from Marietta (Ga.), collected scholarship offers from Arkansas, Clemson, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, NC State, and Tennessee.

"It excites me to play football for Coach Fedora and the program offers so many great opportunities," Tomlin said. "The academic support really impresses me and I know I will take advantage of it.

"It really makes me happy to think about earning a degree from such an incredible school, known for its high academic standards."

Tomlin is UNC’s fourth verbal commitment from Cobb County, Ga. – Cameron Albright, Allen Artis, and Ayden Bonilla being his predecessors.

"I also know that are are going to take the program to another level too," Tomlin said. "Allen, Cameron and I are excited to come from Georgia together and do great things wearing Carolina Blue."

Tar Heel assistant coach Walt Bell recruits that county. Bell was also the primary recruiter for M.J. Stewart, who committed on Monday, and seven other members on UNC’s commitment list.

In mid-May, Tomlin named UNC his leader while listing Clemson, Mississippi, NC State, and Tennessee as members of his top five. About a month later, he announced a decision date with a final three of UNC, NC State, and Tennessee. A day later, he canceled his announcement.

As a junior, Tomlin accumulated 128 tackles (96 solo), including 19 for a loss and 5 ½ sacks, and three interceptions.
