Kennard On UNC's Watch List

AAU ball is often unpredictable, which can make evaluation trips unpredictable as well. Such was the case in late April when Roy Williams attempted to see 2015 guard Luke Kennard.

The Tar Heels have shown serious interest in the 6-4 sophomore from Franklin (Ohio). They've sent assistant coaches to scout him multiple times and invited him down to Chapel Hill in March, where he attended the UNC-Duke game. The next step in the recruitment was a Roy Williams evaluation.

On the opening night of the second evaluation period, Williams flew to a tournament in Ohio specifically to see Kennard in action.

"North Carolina is starting to show a little more interest," Mark Kennard, Luke's father, said. "We did an unofficial visit there. Roy Williams actually flew up to watch Luke in Akron and he was there for an hour and a half and the team we were playing didn't show up. So he had to catch a flight out."

According to Kennard a pair of North Carolina assistants attended Kennard's games this past season.

"I guess both Hubert Davis and another of his assistants have seen Luke play and I think they really like Luke," he said. "They told us they'd get to see him more this summer."

"We've been told that the two assistant really like Luke, but we'll have to wait until Coach Williams sees him play. We've talked to Coach Williams a couple of times, but that's really about it."

Kennard has scholarship offers from Ohio State, Dayton, Xavier, Indiana and West Virginia. To go with interest from UNC, Kennard is hearing from Michigan State, Missouri and Butler.

The elder Kennard said Kentucky and Louisville have inquired, but that the interest seemed minimal at this point.

Already the talented wing has taken unofficial visits to Butler, Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Michigan State and Kentucky. According to Kennard, they don't have any future visits planned.

"We don't have any scheduled, but I'm not saying we won't. We just don't have anything scheduled."
