Booker On UNC's Radar

Booker On UNC's Radar

North Carolina visited Moss Point (Miss.) High earlier this week to see Devin Booker.

The 2014 shooting guard was sidelined by a minor wrist injury when UNC assistant coach Steve Robinson arrived on Monday, but the two talked at length about how Booker could fit into UNC's future lineup.

"Now they got that commitment from Joel Berry, you know a lot of people would like to play with him because he's a good point guard," Booker said. "That's a lot of what he talked about. Their system fits me well and a lot of great players have been through there."

Booker said he's followed the North Carolina program for quite some time.

"I've always been a fan of Carolina - maybe not a ‘fan,' but you have to keep up with them because they are always on TV and they're a big team," Booker said. "I've always watched Roy's team and they are successful, so that's going to play a part."

Following his season season, Booker is planning to take a handful of visits.

"I'm supposed to hit Duke, Carolina and right now we have Florida scheduled for March 2nd," Booker said. "My dad (who starred at Missouri in the early '90s) is going to be at all of them and this will be his first time going up to Michigan, so we are going to hit Michigan and Michigan State too."

Booker currently holds 10 scholarship offers. North Carolina has yet to extend one his way.

"We didn't really talk about that much," Booker said. "I'm not sure if Roy has seen me play yet."

Booker, a five-star recruit, said UNC began recruiting him last summer, but recently has picked up their interest.

The 6-foot-5 guard is known as one of the top shooters in the country. He said despite facing "junk defenses" he's reaching new heights.

"I've been playing the best I have ever so far," Booker said. "I'm getting a bunch of junk defenses with box and 1's and double teams, but I'm playing through it and getting my teammates better involved."

"At the end of the last year that's when teams really started double-teaming," he added. "Me and my dad actually worked on these tough shots I have to take. We simulated what it would be like in the game."

Booker is ranked No. 23 overall in the 2014 recruiting class by Scout.com
