Fort Lauderdale (FL) Plantation defensive tackle Monty Nelson was favoring NC State prior to taking his official visit, and the trip sealed the deal for him.

"I was leaning to them, and the trip sealed it for me," said Nelson. "I committed on Saturday after the basketball game. The coaches, they were excited about it even though they lost the game.

"I loved everything about it. The people there, the fanbase, the coaches, the environment. Everything was great."

Checking in at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds, Nelson had 11.5 sacks during his senior season for Plantation and held scholarship offers from Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Wake Forest, NC State, Arkansas, and Missouri among others.

"It was really down to NC State, Arkansas, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, and Michigan State," said Nelson. "But, I'm all done. I can't wait to get back up."

What was the best part of the visit for Nelson?

"I think it was being in the weight room and meeting up with Coach V," he said. "I liked him a lot. Really, just spending time with him and all the coaches... coach Doeren, coach Nielsen. They are all great guys."

Nelson was hosted on his visit by Wolfpack linebacker Rodman Noel.

"Rodman's cool," he said. "Great host... he was telling me how the new staff was a lot different from the old staff and they are going to take this program to the next level."

Nelson, who says that his recruitment is finished and he will be signing with the Wolfpack this week, is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 55 defensive tackle in the country by Scout.com.
