Early Look: 2014 Recruiting -- RB's

The 2014 recruiting class is loaded with quality prospects. CanesTime's Mike Bakas takes a look at what might lie ahead for the Hurricanes.

Currently: The Hurricanes currently have one senior (Eduardo Clements), two sophomores (Duke Johnson and Dallas Crawford), and one redshirt freshman (Danny Dillard). Fullback Maurice Hagens is also a senior.

2013 Class: The Hurricanes have a commitment from Ray Lewis, who could play either running back or defensive back in college, already. They're trying very hard to land five-star Alex Collins and three-star Augustus Edwards.

2014: The Hurricanes have three known offers out to running backs in the 2014 class right now. Two of those players -- Sony Michel and Dalvin Cook -- are inside Florida and the other (Leonard Fourtnette) is from outside.

Michel is widely considered the state's top running back prospect. At 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, Michel has an elite combination of size, speed, and toughness. He is the total package -- can get the tough yards inside and make a lot of things happen on the outside. Miami and Florida State seem to have the early edge on the rest of the competition.

Cook is the the state's second best running back prospect. The Miami Central standout is very explosive and a tremendous athlete. He's more versatile, and is a major home run threat every time he touches it. At 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, Cook made a very early commitment to Clemson but the Canes never stopped recruiting him and appear to be in solid shape.

Fournette is rated by Scout as the nation's No. 1 running back prospect. At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, he ran for over 2,000 yards in the state of Louisiana this past season. Miami is one of his many offers, but pulling him away from LSU and SEC country will be extremely difficult for the Hurricanes.
