Boulware comes to bring the pain

SPARTANBURG - For three-star linebacker commitment Ben Boulware, it's hard not to hit hard.

That's not part of his DNA.

"They'll tell the offensive guys we're not going to hit them. But we'll bring it. We're not worried about it," he told CUTigers earlier this week, after a Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas practice.

"They didn't really want us hitting and stuff, but me and Davon [Durant], we're going to hit, so we'll get them loosened up."

The T.L. Hanna senior, who committed to Clemson in late March, is the No. 1 rated middle linebacker in South Carolina's class of 2013. This week, Boulware is among the state's other top players participating in the Shrine Bowl.

"It's different, because 4-A has got some good talent, but this is all the top talent in the state," he said. "All these dudes are D-1 dudes, so everyone here is good. I'm not used to that. It's fun to see how you stack up against these dudes."

Lining up beside Durant, a three-star outside linebacker from Greenwood, has been fun for Boulware.

"I like playing with Davon. He's a good player. The linebackers at Hanna are good, but these are the top linebackers in the state. It's fun playing with a guy just like you," Boulware said.

This week has also given him an opportunity to get to know a few other Clemson commitments -- Boulware had never met Jadar Johnson and Mike Williams.

"That's the first time that I've talked to them. I've talked to all the Clemson dudes, they're pretty cool," Boulware said.

At the end of this month, Boulware will head to Florida to play in the Under Armour All-America Game.

"Those are the best players in the country, so I'll see how I stack up against them. I'll just play hard and have fun," he said.

As a senior, Boulware finished with 174 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Recommended Stories
