Derrick Calloway is a talented defensive tackle prospect from Manatee High in Bradenton and Scout caught up with him to discuss the latest.

Derrick Calloway helped his team win a state championship last season and he's been one of the leaders of a team that is knocking on the door of another state title.

"Our season has been been really good," Calloway said. "We're in the semis this week looking to get to our ultimate goal, the state championship."

Calloway, 6-foot-1 and 300 pounds, is part of a very talented defensive front and wants to finish these last few games with a bang.

"This is my last year playing with this D-Line, I've really enjoyed it and I'm going to miss these guys."

Calloway has been a major college prospect this year, and he talked about the latest with recruiting.

"Missouri, Arizona, Texas Tech, Florida, Miami, North Carolina, and USF are some of the schools talking to me regularly," he said.

Three of those seven schools jump out more than the others.

"Missouri, Texas Tech, and Arizona are at the top of my list right now. These three are my favorite because my ultimate goal is to get to the NFL and I feel like these are great programs and can really help me get to the next level. They also have great educational programs."

The standout defensive tackle prospect, who has not yet scheduled any official visits, talked about what he'll be looking for when choosing a school.

"I'm looking for schools with a great coaching staff, good education, and good location."
