Kelsey Griffin (6'2/300) of Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, Ga. is ranked
the No. 10 defensive tackle prospect in the nation by FOX Sports Next. Griffin
has outstanding mobility for a player of his size and can often be seen making
tackles on the sideline after pursuing laterally. He gets off the line quickly
and uses his hands to help him shed defenders. He can play too high at times
allowing him to get pushed backwards off of an initial double team, but he shows
good flexibility which will cure the pad level problem in time.
Griffin is a four quarter player who goes hard on every snap. In fact, the last
three plays on this reel were the last three defensive plays of the game for
Mill Creek as Norcross was trying to run the ball to kill the clock. Some of the
most impressive plays are watching Griffin pursue 4-Star running back Alvin Kamara to the sideline to make a tackle.
Griffin lines up as a defensive tackle or as the nose guard depending on Mill
Creek's base defense, but it's never hard to find big No. 94 in the middle of
the Mill Creek defense.
At one point Griffin had narrowed his choices to Georgia and South Carolina before attempting to commit to the Bulldogs but was asked to hold off. One has to think South Carolina becomes the team to beat for Griffin's services, and he may be keeping as keen an eye on this weekend's game between the Bulldogs and Gamecocks as anyone.
