Heels picked 6th, FSU No. 1 again

GREENSBORO, Ga. – Rumors of a Florida State slip did not inhibit the Atlantic Coast Conference sportswriters from voting the Seminoles as the preseason No. 1 pick. Bobby Bowden’s media table was packed when the league’s most senior and most successful head coach made his way into the ballroom at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge.

Out of 84 voters, made up strictly of the league’s attending media, 35 writers picked FSU first.

N.C. State, which gained 26 first-place votes, was predicted to finish second.

Three through nine are as follows (first-place votes): Maryland (18), Virginia (5), Clemson, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Duke.
