Shaver hires Wolf at W&M

Posted Jun 10, 2003

WILLIAMSBURG, VA (June 10, 2003)-William and Mary men's basketball head coach Tony Shaver announced today that Ted Jeffries and Joe Wolf have been hired as assistant coaches for the Tribe, subject to final approval from the W&M Board of Visitors. They join assistant coach Dee Vick who was hired last month. Both Jeffries and Wolf had outstanding college careers, playing for Virginia and North Carolina, respectively, before playing professionally for many seasons.

"I couldn't be happier or more excited about our new staff," said Shaver. "Finding guys with loyalty and enthusiasm was very important to me and all three of these guys are strong in these areas. Dee, Ted and Joe bring a wealth of experience and tremendous contacts to our program. I want our players and fans to know that we are serious about being successful and I think these guys joining our staff makes a strong point."

Wolf joins the Tribe after working in real estate in Wisconsin, which followed a lengthy career in the NBA. The 13th pick in the first round of the 1987 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, he went on to play in 11 seasons with seven different teams (Clippers, Nuggets, Celtics, Trailblazers, Hornets, Magic and the Bucks) and also played a year in Spain. He ended his NBA career with 2,485 points and 1,933 rebounds in 592 games.

Wolf graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1987 with a degree in industrial relations. In his four seasons as a Tar Heel, he played in 128 games, with 1,231 points and 707 rebounds. He ranks 40th in scoring and 20th in field goal percentage (.575) in Tar Heel history. His senior season, Wolf was a team co-captain and was selected to the ACC First Team and ACC All-Tournament team. That year he was also recognized as UNC's Most Outstanding Senior and earned the Carmichael-Cobb Award as the team's outstanding defensive player and the Jimmie Dempsey Award as the team's overall statistical leader.
