Ole Miss Commitment Sets UNC Visit

Ole Miss Commitment Sets UNC Visit

Mississippi verbal commitment Mike Hilton has scheduled an official visit to North Carolina.

"I'm going to North Carolina this weekend," Hilton said.

Hilton, a 5-foot-9, 174-pound athlete from Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek, verbally committed to Mississippi in early August. However, he decided to explore his options when Houston Nutt was dismissed.

"I'm still open and I'm going to take my official visits," Hilton said.

Hilton began hearing from UNC two weeks ago when assistant coach Blake Anderson contacted him. Anderson followed that up with an in-home visit last Thursday.

"He was just telling me to be patient, I'm one of their top players they're recruiting," Hilton said. "He said enjoy this [official] visit and enjoy the time with them and see how things work out."

UNC is recruiting Hilton as a running back.

"They told me they're looking for different types of ‘backs [in their offense]," Hilton said. "They want a big power ‘back, a balanced back, and a versatile ‘back, which is what they consider me. In their spread [offense], they want me to line up at receiver and catch passes out of the backfield."

During his official visit, Hilton hopes to drastically improve his knowledge of UNC, which is currently limited.

"Besides basketball, I don't know much [about UNC]," Hilton said. "I heard the campus is pretty nice and I hope that's true, because I want a beautiful campus. I don't just want to know the football players, I want to know my classmates, the soccer team – the entire North Carolina family."

Although Hilton is a new target for UNC, Anderson's recruitment of Hilton began as a member of Southern Miss' coaching staff.

"I had an offer from Southern Miss, I know the coaches personally, and I took an official down there," Hilton said. "So I have a real close relationship with them."

Hilton will find out more about the status of a possible scholarship offer from UNC during his official visit.

"I know that they have other commits that they have to honor," Hilton said. "I'm just being patient."

After officially visiting UNC this weekend, Hilton will take an official trip to Mississippi. He says he'll most likely officially visit Mississippi State the final weekend in January.

Hilton plans to decide which school he'll sign with shortly after his final official visit.
