CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – New UNC head coach Larry Fedora has filled all but one of his assistant coaching staff positions and expects to make that final decision this week, according to a source familiar with the process.

Fedora has decided to add three more members of his Southern Miss coaching staff, offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Blake Anderson, co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Dave Duggan and wide receivers coach Walt Bell, and will retain current UNC strength and conditioning coach Tom Myslinski, according to the source.

The lone remaining staff position is running backs coach. Texas A&M running backs coach Randy Jordan (UNC '93) and Texas Tech running backs coach Chad Scott (UNC '04) are the two finalists for the position, although the source indicated that Jordan was the frontrunner for the job.

Anderson worked with Fedora for four seasons at Southern Miss, including the past two as offensive coordinator. In 2011, the Golden Eagles ranked 16th nationally in total offense (461.4 ypg) and 15th in scoring offense (36.9 ppg). The Hubbard, Texas native arrived in Hattiesburg after spending the 2007 season as Louisiana-Lafayette’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks back. Anderson was a finalist for the Southern Miss vacant head coaching position before South Carolina defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson was officially hired last week.

Duggan also served four years under Fedora in Hattiesburg. Duggan spent the previous eight seasons overseas in NFL Europe where his last four defenses – two as defensive coordinator and two as head coach at Cologne – led the league in total defense.

Bell worked as an offensive graduate assistant at Southern Miss in 2010 before being elevated to wide receivers coach for the 2011 season. He is expected to coach tight ends at UNC. The Dickson, Tenn. native earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree at Middle Tennessee State.

Myslinski recently completed his first season in Chapel Hill after one year at Memphis and five years with the Cleveland Browns.

Inside Carolina previously reported on Dec. 20 that Fedora had tentatively hired Illinois defensive coordinator Vic Koenning and Ole Miss wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer, as well as three members of his Southern Miss coaching staff – defensive line coach Deke Adams, defensive coordinator (and DB coach) Dan Disch and offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic.

As of Wednesday, UNC has not officially announced any assistant coach hirings.
