North Carolina became the first Division I-A school to offer Desmond Owino a scholarship.

"I went there [Wednesday] with my coach and they offered," Owino said. The foundation for the offer was laid approximately a week ago. After learning of Owino, who didn't begin playing football until this season, the UNC coaching staff invited the 6-foot-5, 215-pound defensive end to its game against Wake Forest.
