"Oh gosh, I don't know where to start. We're so happy. I'm so happy for these young men going to get to experience Omaha again. It's a thrill of a lifetime for them. We're going to go out there and have a blast. I've kind of known and I've told it to them -- I don't know if they would admit it to you -- I told them two or three weeks ago that it was just something that I felt deep down inside that we were going to go back. And they did it. That's a great credit to them. It's fitting the way that we had to do it and it's fitting to our season, all of the hurdles and obstacles that we had to overcome. You can throw on top of that a three-and-a-half hour rain delay. So it's fitting. We've never done much the easy way. It's always been the hard way all year long. Stanford had a great year. I congratulate them and their coaching staff for the year that they had. I congratulate my players for such an unbelievable run so far and we're looking forward to going to a new stadium in Omaha and seeing it up close and personal."
On his feeling about this team:
"I don't know, just kind of a gut a little bit. Some of it was me trying to make the guys believe a little bit. There's been something about this group. They don't let a whole lot faze them. They just don't let a whole lot of things really bother them. So [during] the three-and-a-half hour rain delay, I go in there and they're having wrestling matches and they just find a way to entertain themselves. They really like each other, so that was a fun three-and-a-half hours for them, I think. They enjoy being down here. They just have this confidence... This team is pretty special and its been a fun season with them."
On his shaky start:
“I just made a couple of bad pitches. The guy I hit was on a fastball in, and I wasn’t too worried about that because I’d rather miss on the inside than over the plate. So I think it was just a coincidence that it was in the first inning.”
On going back to the CWS:
"It's a proud moment. I'm proud of the guys in our locker room, proud of our coaches. It's been a tough couple of weeks on our coaching staff especially, and just the focus that they and our team was able to have in the tournament so far is pretty remarkable and I'm just happy for the guys in that locker room."
On if he thought the shortstop was going to grab his RBI single in the top of the ninth inning:
“He did come close. It’s a game of inches though. I thought he would catch it, honestly. But I’m glad he didn’t.”
On UNC scoring an insurance run in the ninth inning:
"It was a lot easier. I was still anxious to get back out there, but it was a little comforting knowing I had a two-run lead."

“First of all, congratulations to North Carolina. That’s a great team and a great effort, and we wish them all the best in Omaha. I know they’ll play very well. I’m very impressed with them. In both games, they just outplayed us in all phases. I thought we played hard and we bounced back well tonight, down 6-1 and came back and made a game of it. Defense, hitting, pitching; they just beat us in all phases. Our hats are off to them, so congratulations to them. They played great.
“As far as our team, I’m very proud of this team. It’s beyond my expectations with our schedule and losing a couple of guys and a lot of freshmen, so I’m very proud of this group, especially my seniors. They brought a lot of leadership, so I’m very proud of this group. But again, this is North Carolina’s day, and deservedly so. They played great, and I’m really impressed with their team.”
