"North Carolina officially released me today," Felder said. "They sent the release to Pittsburgh today, so I am planning on being a Pitt Panther."
Felder suffered a torn ACL days after signing with UNC and redshirted during the 2010 season in Chapel Hill. He was moved from wide receiver to cornerback for spring practice earlier this year and was listed as a reserve on the spring depth chart.
"I love it at North Carolina, the coaches are great, the players are great and the campus is great," Felder continued. "My dad's parents are very sick and he is by himself trying to take care of them. I cannot let my father do that all alone. I need to be home to help him. I'm going to try to apply for a hardship tomorrow, which will hopefully allow me to play this season."
Pittsburgh was a finalist for Felder when he was being recruited. The Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway native will be reuiniting with former teammates Shayne Hale and Cameron Saddler.
"I know Shayne (Hale) and Cam (Saddler) very well," explained Felder. "Me and Cam became really close when i was being recruited by Pitt. I am also close with Cullen Christian and he is coming to Pitt also. It's nice to have so many friends there and it will make it easier to adapt quicker."
Felder admits it is hard to leave Chapel Hill.
"Coach (Butch) Davis was great about everything," Felder stated. "He said he has been in my situation and he wished me the best of luck in the future. I'm going to miss my friends that I have made here. We were all sitting around talking about it and I had tears in my eyes. I'm going to miss my advisers and coaches. This is hard, but I need to help my family."
