Virgile Has a Leader

Keeon Virgile had a special visitor to his home this week.

North Carolina head coach Butch Davis, joined by two assistant coaches, were in town on Monday.

"Mainly, he just talked to my parents about the school and everything," Virgile said. "He was here for about an hour. He came to the school first [and] then he came to the house to chill with my dad and meet my mom."

Joining Davis were assistant coaches Charlie Williams, who recruits the Miami area for UNC, and Everett Withers, UNC's defensive coordinator.

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini will visit Virgile's home on Wednesday afternoon.

Virgile, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker from North Miami Beach (Fla.) has taken four official visits, thus far – UNC in December, and then Florida International, Western Michigan, and Nebraska the past three weekends. He's unsure if he'll use his final allotted official trip.

"All of [my official visits] pop up at the last second," Virgile said. "[Schools] usually talk to my coach and then he sets everything up."

After four official visits, two schools have begun to separate themselves from the pack.

"I really like North Carolina and Nebraska," Virgile said. "They have good defense and nice academics."

Virgile ranks his favorite schools even further.

"I'm favoring North Carolina more, right now," Virgile said. "I've just always liked North Carolina. I had a couple of schools as a kid that I liked – North Carolina and FSU. FSU was my favorite right there, but I'm not hearing anything from them and they wanted me to play tight end and I wanted to play linebacker."

Virgile will make his final decision during a ceremony at his high school on Signing Day.

Although Virgile is leaning towards UNC, he isn't the lone decision maker. He says both his father and coach will have a say.

"My dad is a fan of Nebraska, because he knows almost everything about them," Virgile said. "But he likes North Carolina, too – so does my coach."
