Lewter Changes Plans

A change in Jamar Lewter's college outlook has necessitated a verbal commitment switch.

"I think I'm going to go another route," Lewter said. "I'm going to go to Marshall."

Lewter, a 6-foot-8, 280-pound offensive tackle from Washington (D.C.) Ballou, originally committed to UNC in early July.

Lewter's academic situation is what brought Marshall into the picture. Lewter isn't on track to qualify to enroll at UNC next summer and all ACC schools can't accept non-qualifiers. Marshall, however, does accept non-qualifiers.

"I'll have to sit out the first season [and] until I get 18 credit hours," Lewter said. "But I'll still be on the team and able to work out and stuff – I just can't play. After I get my 18 credit hours, I'll be on the team – I'll be able to dress and play."

Lewter says that while attending a junior college was an option, he decided he didn't want to go that route.

"The coaches [at Marshall] were really on me hard," Lewter said.
