Brown was held out of the first six games of 2010 as a part of the ongoing investigation into the football program.
The Maple Heights, Ohio native started all 13 games at cornerback in 2009, leading the team with nine pass breakups, and was the presumed starter heading into 2010.
At 5-10, 205 pounds, Brown saw extensive action through his first three seasons at UNC, posting 151 tackles, six interceptions and 15 breakups.
Brown will have one season of athletic eligibility remaining.

North Carolina also announced that senior cornerback Kendric Burney will not play Saturday against Miami.
Burney was given a six-game suspension for violations of NCAA agent benefits and preferential treatment rules on Sept. 22. However, he had an academic matter related to the ongoing review that included an Honor Court appearance on Monday and remains unresolved.
Burney, a 5-foot-9, 190-pound cornerback from Jacksonville, N.C., was tabbed a 2010 second-team Preseason All-America by Sporting News and a 2010 Thorpe Award candidate after earning first-team All-ACC honors in ’09 for totaling 47 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, five interceptions, one interception return for touchdown and one fumble recovery.
He ranks 13th all-time at UNC with nine career interceptions, and also has career totals of 180 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and 12 pass break ups.
